Ramcon Actuators

Ramcon Pneumatic Actuators

Ramcon Scotch Yoke pneumatic actuators have a long history, producing actuation for quarter-turn valves. The original Scotch yoke design provides maximum starting torque in both double-acting and fail-safe, spring return models. A double mounting pad makes for reversible, easy installation. There is a range of weather-resistant models featuring 40 – 120 psi operating range, 70 to 137,000 lb.-in. breaking torque, and between 40 to 66,000 lb.-in. running torque. These models can be found in their original design under the brand names Ramcon, Hills-McCanna Ramcon, Rockwell McCanna Ramcon, QCI Ramcon, and QCI.

Ramcon Electric Actuators

Ramcon electric actuators have a long history, producing actuation for quarter-turn valves. This series of reversible electric actuators are designed for ease of use and reliability. The range of models offers torque outputs from 450 to 45,000 inch-pounds. These are popular electric actuators in a variety of industrial and commercial applications requiring quarter-turn automation, automating ball, butterfly,  plug valves, and dampers. Ramcon electric actuators haves optional manual overrides and an internal heater. These actuators are lightweight and easy to install, with retrofit brackets fabricated for replacement installations. Available actuation in NEMA 1, NEMA 4X, NEMA 7, NEMA 12X  Weatherproof and Explosion-proof designs, with operating voltages of 12 VDC, 120 VAC, 220 VAC (1 Phase), 220 VAC (3 Phase), 24 VAC, 24 VDC, and 460 VAC (3 Phase). Actuator Sizing and Spring selection.

The Hills-McCanna Ramcon, Rockwell McCanna Ramcon, and QCI Ramcon Pneumatic Actuators are furnished with spring-return capsules based upon torque requirements. For actuator sizing,  An accurate maximum torque requirement must be obtained. The maximum starting torque required to rotate the valve element (ball, disc, plug, etc.) from a fully closed position (unsealing), against the maximum normal valve rated different pressures. Therefore, the manufacturer’s product data in the form of torque must be determined. Operating extremes, differential pressure, and high flow rates might also factor into torque value adjustments for both double-acting and spring-return actuators.

The valve’s maximum torque requirements must be exceeded by the actuator’s torque output. Our literature includes Start, Minimum, and End Spring Torque outputs, as well as Start, Minimum, and End Pressure Torque Outputs. The minimum torque outputs listed on the Spring-Return torque charts are the lowest value of torque output available at any position, during either stroke (pressure or spring).

Select from the Spring Torque column a Spring Ending torque output that exceeds that of the valve’s maximum seating requirement. Proceed to the right using your minimum operating pressure and select an operating pressure column from the Pressure Torque Rating Section of less than or equal pressure. The Pressure Start torque output must exceed the valve’s torque requirement at this position (unseating). The Pressure End torque output must exceed the valve’s torque requirement at this position (full flow) and direction of rotation. Once the actuator model has been selected, use the data tables to ensure your maximum supply pressure does not exceed the maximum operating pressure (M.O.P.). If the actuator selected is not rated for your maximum supply pressure, either the maximum supply pressure must be reduced or an actuator rated for a higher M.O.P. must be selected.

Ramcon Pneumatic Actuator Repair Parts

Ramcon pneumatic actuators are compact, lightweight, and ideally suited for automating ball, butterfly, and non-lubricated plug valves, or any quarter-turn (90 degree) rotating mechanism. These economical, low-maintenance actuators are easily maintained and repaired. Authorized Parts, Inc. maintains a stock of these repair parts. Normally, a repair kit consists of (2) Piston O-rings, (2) Shaft O-rings (2) End Cap O-Rings (2) Retaining Keys, and (2) Slugs, Retaining Keys. Consult our repair guide for part numbers of items not related to a standard repair kit.
