Stockham Valves

Stockham Valve Company

Stockham Valves & Fittings Company of Birmingham, Alabama manufactures dependable quality bronze valves, quality iron valves, fire protection valves, AWWA valves, Cast Steel Valves, Wedge Plug Valves, corrosion-resistant valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, cast iron, and malleable iron fittings, wafer check valves, and valve accessories. The company was recently acquired by Crane Energy. For solutions to your most difficult piping systems problems, see the complete Stockham Master Catalog on Authorized Parts, Inc. website: https://www.authorizedparts.com/stockham-master-catalog-2

Efficient Stop Valves

Stockham designed gate valves, ball valves, and check valves that offer bubble-tight restriction of flow in applications demanding fully open or fully closed operation. Gate valves are generally not soft-seated due to service conditions. However, for lighter service, a ball valve can be specified.

Consistent Flow Control

Stockham designed globe valves, butterfly valves, Wedgeplug valves, angle valves and stop check valves that offer minimum pressure drop and maximum function for accurate results. Depending upon the valve service, these characteristics are commonly overlooked in production and process systems. When seeking solutions for accurate flow control, trust the Stockham brand for superior results.

Valve Alloy Materials

Material specifications encompass a wide combination of alloys and composite materials for specific applications.

  • Bronze, ASTM B-62 body or bronze trim
  • Cast copper-nickel bronze, ASTM B-584, silicon bronze, bronze trim
  • ASTM B-371, 500 Brinell hardness 13% chromium stainless steel
  • Cast iron ASTM A-126
  • Ni-resist ASTM A-436 type 2
  • Cast carbon steel, ASTM A-216 WCB, cast steel
  • Chrome-moly alloys ASTM A217 Grades WC1, grade C5, grade WC9, grade WC6, grade C12, grade LCB, grade LCC.
  • Ductile iron ASTM A-536
  • Stainless Steel ASTM A-351, grade CF8, grade CF8M, grade CF8C, grade CF3M, grade CF3
  • Chromium stainless steel ASTM A-276, type 410 trim
  • ASTM B-473 Alloy 20 CN7M and cast Monel M35

When ordering or submitting an RFQ, please specify one of these valve body materials, and associated trim material

Valve Elastomeric Composite Materials

The following elastomers are generally used as seating materials for bubble-tight shut-off.

Nitrile Rubber, EPDM, Hypalon, Natural Rubber, Viton, White Neoprene, Buna-N, PTFE Teflon, and RTFE Reinforced Teflon

These materials are seating options on bronze globe valves, iron globe valves, fire protection gate valves, AWWA valves, corrosion-resistant valves, ball valves, butterfly valves,

and swing check valves. Butterfly valves, in particular, are soft-seated, see the selection guide in our Master catalog for consistent flow control characteristics, efficient stop valves with minimum pressure drop

Gate Valves

Stockham gate valves are commonly specified when the design requires high-velocity flow and fully open or fully closed operation. Gate valves offer more consistent flow control and accurate control than a low-cost installation ball valve. A gate valve design typically includes hard seats for longer life. In a cast steel valve, for example, the seats are Stellite or Chromium stainless steel ASTM A-276, type 410 trim. This guarantees long life in severe service conditions. See the selection guide for solutions to the most challenging applications. The Stockham brand confers quality, superior design, and low-cost installation.

Butterfly Valves

Butterfly valves differ from ball valves based on design. Both are high velocity flow, proven performers with wide acceptance. Whereas a ball valve must be used in applications that are fully open or fully closed, a butterfly valve can regulate flow without damaging the valve seats. Ten-position locking levers allow for consistent flow control and accurate control. Installation of the butterfly valve, especially with a gear operator, must consider the direction of flow. The function of a ball valve does not have a restriction on the direction of flow. A ball valve carries the same function in a piping system as a gate valve, with a low installed cost, but the same quality solution as other efficient stop valves.

Therefore, a Stockham butterfly valve is a globe valve commonly specified for the economy. The design and function of the Stockham ball valve and the Stockham butterfly valve also allow for replaceable seats when the piping system requires maintenance.

Valve Pressure Classes

Cast iron and dependable quality bronze valves are rated in classes 125,150,200,250 and 300 psi steam rating, plus UL / FM 175 class for fire protection.

Cast carbon steel, Chrome-moly alloys, and Stainless Steel valves are rated in classes 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500, and 2500

When ordering or submitting an RFQ, please specify one of these pressure classes

Valve End Connections

Stockham Valves are made within a multitude of ends connections to meet the rigors of industrial applications. Threaded NPT ends, solder ends, brazed ends, flanged ends, flanged ends with RTJ ring type joint, butt weld ends, (specify bore schedule when ordering), socket weld ends and union ends

When ordering or submitting an RFQ, please specify one of these end connections

Stockham Accessories

Stockham globe, angle, gate, check valves and stop-check valves can be equipped with bypasses and other mechanical accessories including actuation and gear operators.

Special options are lever and weight check valves, built-up bypass, and gear operators. Underwriters Laboratories and Factory Mutual valves include options for indicator posts.

How to Identify a Stockham Valve

If no Figure Number is visible on the body casting, a valve can normally be distinguished by the shape and pattern. Markings may include Stockham, the letter “S” in a square, Wedgeplug, or Birmingham. The grade of steel, WCB, WCC, WC6, WC9, C5, C9, or C12 will be cast into the valve. There will also be markings indicating the pressure class of the valve as 150, 300, 600 900, 1500, and 2500. Note the type of end connection as well. Wedgeplug valves will have 40 percent, 70 percent, 90 percent, or 100 percent opening marked on the casting. If the valve has pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric actuation, please get the serial number from the actuator.  and optional steam jacket. Submit your RFQ on Authorized Parts website easy to use form at: https://www.authorizedparts.com/request-a-quote-2/

How to order Stockham Valves

To order please select the valve type, valve size, pressure class, body material, trim material, and end connections. Valves are available in NPT, solder end, flanged and butt-weld end (specify bore schedule), brazed, socket weld and union end. Include any special options such as by-passes, chain wheel, pneumatic or electric actuator.

FAQ’s

If no Figure Number is visible on the body casting, a stop valve can normally be distinguished from a stop-check non-return valve by the presence of an equalizer tube.

Yes. Other manufacturer’s valves cross-reference to Stockham valves and vice versa. Crane, Jenkins, Grinnell, Powell, Pacific, Velan, and Lunkenheimer are examples of manufacturers with equivalent products. However, not all design features are the same, so care should be taken when evaluating.

Yes. All valve testing requirements can be made available for Rockwell Valves, including  MTR’s, NDE, Pressure Testing, Radiography Testing, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, PMI, Positive Material Identification, Hardness Testing, Failure Analysis, spark testing, or electrostatic and hydro-testing per ASTM 1545.
